PTI founder Imran Khanโs sister, Aleema Khan, has raised concerns about the functioning of the legal system and claimed that judicial independence has become limited following the 27th Constitutional Amendments.
Speaking to the media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, she argued that courts no longer held complete independence in legal decision-making.
According to Aleema Khan, authorities now influence decisions regarding legal relief and imprisonment instead of allowing courts to operate independently.
She said these developments extended beyond one political figure and could affect broader public confidence in legal institutions.
Concerns Over Political Victimisation
Aleema Khan warned that political victimisation would not remain restricted to Imran Khan alone.
Instead, she argued that ordinary citizens could eventually experience similar consequences.
She said, “The people responsible, will leave the country on the first available flight, but ordinary Pakistanis will continue to suffer from injustices of the rulers,”
She maintained that accountability and equal legal treatment remained important principles for democratic systems.
At the same time, she linked public participation and lawful political engagement to broader constitutional rights.
Family Reiterates Position on Imran Khanโs Rights
Aleema Khan restated that Imran Khan had repeatedly encouraged supporters to stand against what he described as injustices.
According to her, peaceful protest remains a constitutional right and an important democratic mechanism for creating public pressure.
She also referred to the events of November 26 and claimed that PTI lawmakers and family members were prevented from reaching Adiala Jail.
According to her account, roads were blocked near 26 Number Chungi during the attempted visit.
Claims Regarding Prison Meeting Proposal
Aleema Khan further stated that increased public pressure later resulted in communication from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi through PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
According to her, the message included an offer to facilitate a meeting between Imran Khan and his sister Noreen Niazi if a formal request was submitted.
However, she said the family declined the proposal.
She explained that their position focused on restoring all legal and constitutional rights instead of securing a single meeting.
Family Calls for Medical Examination and Restoration of Rights
Aleema Khan said the family had requested for the past five months that Imran Khan be transferred to a hospital for medical examination. She also urged party leadership to support that demand.
According to her, the family later learned through television reports that the proposed meeting had not materialised.
She alleged that expectations had been created despite no final arrangement taking place.
Concluding her remarks, Aleema Khan said the family would continue pressing for the restoration of all rights of the PTI founder.
She added that once those rights were restored, political efforts regarding his release could continue separately.
For now, she maintained that securing a single prison meeting would not address the broader concerns raised by the family.
