CTD Detains Suspect Linked to Online Radicalisation
Authorities in Pakistan have arrested a YouTuber accused of recruiting individuals for a banned militant group. The operation was carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department as part of ongoing intelligence efforts.
The suspect, identified as Muhammad Saad bin Riaz, is reportedly associated with a YouTube platform named Eon News. Officials claim he was involved in promoting extremist content and attempting to recruit followers.
A case has been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. Charges include supporting a proscribed organization and distributing related material. Legal provisions cited include sections addressing membership and dissemination of extremist content.
Arrest Made During Intelligence-Based Operation
According to officials, the arrest took place on April 27 during a targeted search operation. The location was near GPO Chowk on Mall Road in Lahore.
Authorities acted on intelligence reports about a suspected member of al-Qaeda. The suspect was reportedly present at a mosque in the area. Law enforcement claims he was actively recruiting individuals at the time.
During the raid, officials recovered several items from his possession. These included five books related to Osama bin Laden. An alleged membership card linked to the group was also seized.
The FIR states that the suspect was distributing prohibited material. Authorities believe this material was intended to influence and recruit individuals.
Wider Crackdown Leads to Multiple Arrests
The Counter Terrorism Department has intensified its operations across the province. In the past week alone, officials claim to have arrested 21 suspected members of banned organizations.
A total of 214 intelligence-based operations were conducted. During these operations, more than 200 individuals were questioned. The efforts aimed to prevent planned terrorist activities.
Among those arrested was a suspected member of Fitna-ul-Khawarij. Another suspect linked to the Balochistan Liberation Army was also detained.
Arrests were made in several districts. These include Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Jhang, Khanewal, Mianwali, Toba Tek Singh, Multan, Gujrat, Pakpattan, and Bahawalpur.
Officials say these operations are part of a broader strategy. The goal is to dismantle networks involved in extremist activities. Authorities remain on high alert to prevent further threats.
The latest arrest highlights concerns about online platforms being used for radicalisation. Law enforcement agencies are increasing monitoring efforts to counter such risks.
