The United States launched fresh airstrikes against Iran on Saturday after two American troops died in Jordan. Meanwhile, Iran expanded retaliatory attacks across the Gulf as regional tensions escalated further.
US Targets Iran After Deadly Jordan Attack
The United States said the latest strikes aimed to punish Iran following attacks on American forces. According to US Central Command, Iranian ballistic missiles and drones targeted troops defending positions in Jordan.
CENTCOM confirmed two service members died during Friday’s attack. Additionally, another American soldier remains missing after the assault. Consequently, confirmed US military deaths since February 28 have risen to 16.
Later, CENTCOM announced an eighth consecutive night of strikes against Iranian targets. It said the operation sought to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping. Furthermore, officials stated the strikes targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces linked to the Jordan attack.
Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim reported US strikes on Sirik. The southern Iranian port sits along the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Iran Expands Regional Retaliation
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader vowed to teach the United States “unforgettable lessons” following intensified American attacks. Iranian officials claimed recent US strikes hit an airport, railway station, and several bridges.
Additionally, Iran targeted infrastructure across the Gulf in response to the American campaign. Kuwaiti authorities said Iranian strikes hit an oil facility alongside power and water infrastructure.
Bahrain’s military also reported intercepting several Iranian attacks using its air defence systems. Furthermore, Iranian forces launched fresh strikes into Jordan, intensifying fears of wider regional conflict.
The latest escalation came only one month after both countries signed a preliminary peace agreement. However, the deal has since collapsed as military operations continue across the region.
