Pakistan and Qatar say new groups will steer implementation of the MoU and address tensions linked to Hezbollah
LUCERNE: The latest round of US-Iran negotiations in Switzerland has concluded with both sides agreeing to establish a series of high-level committees and working groups to oversee implementation of their memorandum of understanding, according to a joint statement issued by Pakistan and Qatar, the two principal mediators in the talks.
The announcement signals a move from broad political understandings toward a more structured negotiation phase, with new mechanisms expected to tackle nuclear issues, sanctions, dispute resolution and regional flashpoints tied to the wider conflict.
According to the joint statement cited by OSINTdefender, the United States and Iran committed to forming a high-level committee that will supervise several working groups. These groups will focus on nuclear matters, sanctions, and a monitoring and dispute-resolution mechanism intended to ensure the effective implementation of the MoU, while also addressing other outstanding issues.
Committees to oversee technical and political tracks
The mediators said the newly proposed structure is designed to create a formal channel for follow-up discussions and implementation. The working groups are expected to handle the most sensitive parts of the agreement, particularly those involving Tehranโs nuclear programme, sanctions relief, and mechanisms for resolving disputes that may arise during the process.
The statement also pointed to the creation of an additional deconfliction group focused on Lebanon, underscoring the extent to which regional tensions continue to shape the diplomatic process.
Lebanon deconfliction mechanism added to talks framework
Pakistan and Qatar said the deconfliction group will coordinate efforts to secure a cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah, an issue that has emerged as a major point of contention among Iran, the United States and Israel.
The latest developments suggest that while the Lucerne round has ended, the broader negotiation process is now entering a more technical and politically sensitive stage.
