Washington Targets Technology Acquisition Scheme
The United States announced a new round of sanctions on Friday targeting an alleged Iranian procurement network accused of obtaining sensitive technology for military purposes through fraudulent business practices.
According to the US State Department, the network was allegedly led by Ali Majd Sepehr and used deceptive methods to acquire advanced equipment from American companies.
Officials said the network reportedly posed as legitimate US businesses and established fake online identities to secure technology from dozens of firms.
Furthermore, investigators alleged that intermediaries operating in Dubai received shipments on behalf of the network before transferring equipment to entities connected with Iranโs defense sector.
Authorities stated that the targeted items included advanced spectrum analyzers, security detection systems, and other specialized technologies.
Meanwhile, the US government announced a reward of up to $15 million for information that could help disrupt financing activities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The latest measures form part of Washingtonโs broader effort to restrict access to technologies considered sensitive from a national security perspective.
Additional Measures Focus on Strait of Hormuz Activities
Alongside the sanctions announcement, the US Treasury Department updated guidance concerning transactions connected to Iran and maritime activities in the Strait of Hormuz.
Officials specifically referenced the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, stating that the organization had been designated under US counterterrorism authorities.
According to the Treasury Department, the designation was linked to allegations that the authority provided support or services benefiting the IRGC.
As a result, US authorities warned that transactions involving the organization could expose individuals or institutions to sanctions risks.
Meanwhile, the Persian Gulf Strait Authority publicly rejected the measures and criticized the sanctions in statements posted on social media.
The exchange highlights continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran over regional security, maritime activities, and economic restrictions.
Analysts note that sanctions remain a central element of US policy toward Iran, particularly regarding military procurement networks, regional activities, and strategic waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz.
