Britainโs Royal Navy has identified Lily-Mae Fisher as one of three service personnel killed in a helicopter crash during routine training in southwest England.
Training accident claims three lives
The Ministry of Defence said the Merlin Mk4 helicopter crashed during a routine training mission. Fisher, aged 31, died along with two other Royal Navy personnel in the incident.
Moreover, officials confirmed that Fisher was the only serving female Royal Navy Commando at the time of her death. She had completed one of the militaryโs toughest training programmes in 2022, including a 30-mile march required for commando qualification.
A rising military career cut short
Fisher had been undergoing her final flight training assessment and was due to qualify as a helicopter pilot this month. Her career was widely seen as a milestone for women in the British armed forces.
In addition, she had gained attention on social media, where she shared her experiences as a woman in the military. Her Instagram account had more than 45,000 followers.
Tributes and recognition
The Ministry of Defence (United Kingdom) said she inspired many people, especially young women, to pursue military careers. Officials praised her dedication and service.
Furthermore, the Navy highlighted her achievement as part of a small group of women who have completed the All Arms Commando Course since 2001.
