ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) has announced nationwide protests scheduled for Friday against rising inflation, increasing petroleum prices, and the continued detention of political prisoners, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
TTAP Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai shared the announcement through a statement posted on X. He stated that protesters would also demand the immediate transfer of Imran Khan to a hospital for medical treatment.
Opposition Alliance Agrees on Protest Campaign
The opposition alliance finalized the decision during a leadership summit where participants agreed to launch countrywide demonstrations over worsening economic conditions, rising lawlessness, and alleged political repression.
According to reports, Imran Khan was recently diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition associated with cardiovascular health risks. His lawyer and Supreme Court amicus curiae, Salman Safdar, submitted the medical report before the court.
Meanwhile, Asad Qaiser addressed the media outside Parliament House and confirmed that the opposition alliance had approved a four-point agenda. He further stated that opposition parties would resist the passage of the upcoming federal budget, claiming parliamentary procedures had become ineffective and opposition voices were being suppressed.
PTI Leaders Raise Concerns Over Governance and Economy
Asad Qaiser also criticized the treatment of political prisoners, including Iman Mazari, alleging political victimization and injustice. Furthermore, he demanded that courts decide cases against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi on merit and transfer both to hospital immediately.
In addition, Qaiser expressed concern over terrorism, economic instability, and Pakistanโs foreign policy direction. He claimed industries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were shutting down because of worsening conditions and called for the reversal of recent petroleum price increases. He also demanded the removal of restrictions on flour, gas, and CNG supplies.
