Trump Concludes China Visit After Strategic Talks With Xi Jinping
US President Donald Trump departed China on Friday after completing a two-day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The high-level meetings focused on economic cooperation, regional security, and stabilizing relations between the worldโs two largest economies.
Trump left Beijing aboard Air Force One following a final tea session and lunch with Xi at Zhongnanhai, the official leadership compound of the Chinese government. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the departure ceremony at Beijing Capital Airport, where military honors and youth performers marked the conclusion of the visit.
During remarks before his departure, Trump described his relationship with Xi as โvery strongโ and emphasized the importance of continued communication between Washington and Beijing.
The US president also highlighted discussions about the ongoing Middle East conflict and concerns surrounding Iranโs nuclear ambitions. Trump said both leaders agreed that Iran should not obtain nuclear weapons and stressed the importance of keeping strategic waterways open, including the Strait of Hormuz.
Xi welcomed Trumpโs visit by emphasizing the symbolic significance of Zhongnanhai. He described the location as the residence of several Chinese leaders throughout history and referenced Trumpโs hospitality during his 2017 visit to Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
The Chinese president said he intentionally selected the historic venue to reciprocate that earlier gesture.
China and US Focus on Stability, Trade, and Global Coordination
According to Chinese state media, Xi described Trumpโs Beijing visit as โhistoricโ and a โlandmarkโ moment for bilateral relations. Chinese officials stated that both sides agreed on the need for a more constructive and strategically stable relationship.
Xi said the talks produced important understandings regarding economic coordination, trade relations, and practical cooperation across multiple sectors. Both governments also reportedly agreed to improve communication on major international and regional issues.
The summit comes during a period of heightened global tension, especially following the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. China has repeatedly called for dialogue and de-escalation in the region, while Washington has accused Beijing of maintaining close military and economic ties with Tehran.
Despite these differences, both leaders publicly emphasized the importance of avoiding direct confrontation between the United States and China.
Xi stated that peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation represent the expectations of both nations and the wider international community. He also called for preserving the positive momentum achieved during the summit.
Chinese officials said stronger cooperation between Beijing and Washington could support economic development, global stability, and long-term diplomatic engagement.
Summit Held Amid Middle East Conflict and Economic Uncertainty
Trumpโs visit to China took place against the backdrop of continuing instability in the Middle East. The conflict intensified after military strikes involving US and Israeli forces targeted Iran earlier this year, leading to retaliation across the region.
The temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz disrupted global energy markets and raised fears of wider economic consequences. An indefinite ceasefire is currently in effect, but tensions remain high.
Analysts say the Beijing summit reflected growing international pressure on both powers to coordinate responses to global crises, including security concerns, trade disruptions, and inflation risks.
The visit also carried historic significance. It marked the first official trip to China by a sitting US president in nearly a decade. Trump previously visited Beijing in 2017 during his first presidential term.
Observers believe the summit signals an effort by both governments to rebuild trust after years of strained relations involving trade disputes, technology restrictions, and geopolitical rivalry.
While major differences between Washington and Beijing remain unresolved, both sides presented the summit as a step toward more stable and predictable engagement.
