A British TikToker is facing a murder charge in Dubai after allegedly fatally stabbing a 26-year-old man during an incident she claims was an act of self-defence.
According to reports, 23-year-old Brooke George, a former department store employee from Kent, was charged with the premeditated murder of a man she met through Facebook.
Dubai Police have accused George of premeditated murder. If convicted under UAE law, she could face the death penalty, according to the advocacy group Detained in Dubai (DiD).
DiD said George traveled to Dubai after developing an online relationship with the man. She described her first week-long visit as “the time of my life.”
However, the organization claimed the relationship changed during her second visit. According to George’s account, the man became increasingly controlling and abusive.
DiD alleged George raised concerns with friends after discovering disturbing material on the man’s computer. She also claimed she became alarmed after learning he had purchased only a one-way ticket for her.
According to DiD, the incident followed a night at an Irish bar. The organization alleged the man assaulted George inside a car before continuing the attack at their apartment.
George’s family claimed she contacted them in distress after the alleged assault. They said they arranged a flight home before she returned to collect her passport and belongings.
According to DiD, George alleged the man punched her during the confrontation. She claimed she feared for her life and grabbed a kitchen knife in self-defence.
Police arrested George in the early hours of June 22. She remains in custody at Bur Dubai Police Station while legal proceedings continue.
DiD further alleged George was denied access to the British Embassy and questioned without legal representation. The group also claimed she was subjected to inappropriate treatment during her detention.
The British Foreign Office is assisting the detained British national. The BFO is also supporting her family and remaining in contact with local authorities.
