The upcoming OnePlus 16 could launch primarily in China as uncertainty grows over the smartphone maker’s international strategy, according to a new leak.
Tipster Yogesh Brar claims the standard OnePlus 16 may not launch in India, traditionally one of the company’s major markets. Instead, OnePlus could position the OnePlus 16R as its primary premium smartphone for Indian consumers.
However, OnePlus has not officially confirmed the international availability of either model, leaving open the possibility that its plans could change before launch.
International OnePlus 16 Launch Appears Increasingly Uncertain
The speculation comes as OnePlus reduces its presence across several international markets.
The company has already confirmed that it will stop launching new products in Europe and North America as part of a broader restructuring, while continuing to provide support to existing customers.
Consequently, if OnePlus also decides against introducing the OnePlus 16 in India, the flagship could have extremely limited availability outside China.
The strategy would effectively turn the OnePlus 16 into a China-focused flagship while the 16R represents the brand in some remaining overseas markets.
Leaks Point to Massive 9,000mAh Battery
Meanwhile, OnePlus is still expected to introduce the OnePlus 16 in China later this year.
Leaks suggest the flagship could feature a huge 9,000mAh battery, potentially making it the largest battery ever fitted to a OnePlus flagship smartphone.
Additionally, separate reports suggest the OnePlus 16 could carry a higher price than its predecessor.
Details surrounding the OnePlus 16R remain less clear, including its specifications and potential Chinese counterpart.
For now, OnePlus has not formally announced the OnePlus 16’s international launch strategy, meaning its eventual market availability remains uncertain.
