Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani visits GHQ as Pakistan and Syria pledge stronger bilateral cooperation on shared security challenges
RAWALPINDI: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, with both sides discussing regional security and bilateral defence cooperation.
Al-Shaibani, accompanied by a Syrian delegation, exchanged views with the Pakistani military leadership on matters of mutual interest and the evolving regional security environment.
Moreover, the two sides explored opportunities to expand cooperation in defence and security as Islamabad and Damascus seek to deepen their longstanding relationship.
Pakistan Highlights Longstanding Ties With Syria
During the meeting, Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding fraternal relations with Syria and reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening bilateral engagement.
He also shared Pakistan’s perspective on global peace and regional stability, stressing the importance of cooperation among countries facing common security challenges.
Furthermore, the army chief underscored the need for collaborative efforts to address emerging threats and promote stability across the wider region.
The discussions came amid rapidly changing security dynamics in the Middle East and growing diplomatic engagement among regional countries.
Both Sides Pledge Expanded Defence Cooperation
Meanwhile, the Syrian foreign minister appreciated the professional role played by Pakistan’s armed forces in promoting regional peace and stability.
Al-Shaibani and his delegation also expressed interest in strengthening engagement with Pakistan as Syria develops its regional partnerships.
Both sides subsequently reaffirmed their determination to deepen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in defence and security.
The meeting reflected continuing diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Damascus and highlighted their shared interest in maintaining regional stability through dialogue and cooperation.
Additionally, the discussions signalled an intention to develop more structured defence and security contacts between the two countries.
Pakistan and Syria agreed to maintain their engagement and pursue opportunities for closer cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly where coordinated approaches could contribute to regional peace, security and stability.
