The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a high-level investigation into the tragic boat accident at Saifullah Lake in Swat. The committee will determine what caused the incident and whether safety protocols were properly followed.
The provincial government formed the inquiry committee under the directives of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. Officials expect the investigation to identify operational and technical shortcomings that may have contributed to the tragedy.

The Secretary of the Inter-Provincial Department, a BS-20 officer, will head the committee. Meanwhile, the Special Secretary of Finance will also serve as a member.

Details of the Swat Boat Tragedy
The tragic incident occurred on July 1, 2026, when a tourist boat capsized at Saifullah Lake in the Kalam area of Swat district.
Initial reports indicated that the boat carried seven people, including the boatman. However, officials later confirmed that eight members of the same family were on board at the time of the accident.
Following the incident, rescue teams, police personnel, and local volunteers immediately launched search operations.
Five tourists lost their lives in the accident. Rescue workers recovered their bodies from the Mahodand area after an extensive operation.
Meanwhile, the boatman survived the incident with serious injuries. Rescue teams shifted him to a hospital, where he received medical treatment.

The provincial government has directed the committee to complete its investigation within one week.
