Previously holding the position of Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman, Ramiz Raja expressed his belief that removing fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi from his captaincy role in such a short timeframe, specifically within a single day, was an unjust act.
Raja shared his perspective by stating, “Similar to Shaheen Shah Afridi’s situation, I experienced the same. It was essential to build trust with Shaheen Shah Afridi prior to deciding on the captaincy matter.”
The well-known commentator stated, “Gaining experience through captaincy may lead to feeling overwhelmed, as your focus on cricket is diverted.”
Supporting Shaheen, Raja commented, “Shaheen Shah Afridi is a game-changer.” Discussing the Pakistan team, he added, “It’s not the right time for trials as the ICC World T20 tournament is approaching.”
He conveyed his desire for white-ball captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to be the opening batsmen.
The former captain commended Azam’s leadership, stating, “Babar Azam has proven to be an exceptional captain. He possesses the skill of maintaining team unity. His intelligence makes him a fitting leader.”
Raja emphasized the importance of participating in at least two games in the United States prior to the World Cup.
Regarding Mohammad Amir’s opinion, Raja stated that it would be more appropriate to have three fast bowlers in the World Cup. In response to the inquiry, he suggested that playing cricket should involve keeping one’s mouth shut.
