Over 360 Traffic Officials Deployed for T20 Series in Rawalpindi

T20 Series

RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police (CTP) in Rawalpindi have meticulously prepared a comprehensive traffic management strategy to accommodate both the influx of cricket enthusiasts and maintain smooth traffic flow during the upcoming T20 International series between Pakistan and New Zealand.

This series, hosted at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from April 16 to April 21, will see heightened security and traffic measures to ensure the safety and convenience of all attendees.

According to a CTP spokesperson, the plan includes the deployment of 367 traffic personnel tasked with managing the anticipated large crowds and vehicle flow.

The team composition is robust, featuring seven deputy superintendents of police, also known as circle in-charges, alongside 40 inspectors. Additionally, 318 wardens and traffic assistants will be strategically positioned to manage the vehicular movement and assist the public.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimoor Khan has been instrumental in orchestrating these preparations. Under his guidance, the traffic police have developed alternative traffic routes to counteract any congestion caused by road closures during the matches and team movements.

Khan emphasized the importance of maintaining a seamless flow of traffic along these alternate pathways to minimize any disruptions to the regular traffic patterns.

To further facilitate spectators, the CTP has designated three parking areas: the Civil Aviation ground at Shaheen Chowk, Shehbaz Sharif Park near Shaheen Chowk, and the Government Degree College in Satellite Town. These areas are intended to streamline vehicle storage and provide safe, convenient access to the stadium.

Specific traffic rerouting measures include the closure of Murree Road from Faizabad to Double Road during the cricket teams’ transit to and from the stadium. Vehicles coming from Islamabad will be redirected at Faizabad to the expressway.

Similarly, outgoing traffic towards Islamabad can access the city via 6th Road and Saidpur Road, while vehicles approaching from Ghousia Chowk will be rerouted to Farooq Azam Road and Kuri Road.

Moreover, vehicles arriving from 9th Avenue will enter Rawalpindi through Faizabad, continuing on the expressway, and navigate through Pandora Chungi, Katarian, Carriage Factory, Prodhai Mor, and Chak Madad. Conversely, traffic heading towards Double Road and 9th Avenue Islamabad from Rawalpindi will utilize Murree Road.

To enhance public awareness of these changes, the CTP plans to display banners detailing alternative routes and parking information along major roads.

Additionally, the official social media channels of the traffic police and updates from radio station 88.6 will provide real-time updates on traffic diversions and conditions.

CTO Khan stressed that the successful implementation of this extensive traffic and security plan relies heavily on the cooperation of the public.

He called for the community’s support in adhering to these measures to ensure both the safety of the cricket teams and the smooth conduct of the series.
