New Zealand Clinches Fourth T20I Victory Over Pakistan by Four Runs

T20I Victory

In an intense battle at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, New Zealand emerged victorious in the fourth Twenty20 International against Pakistan, clinching a narrow win by four runs.

Setting a target of 179 runs, New Zealand ensured they surpassed the par score, thanks to a stellar performance by opener Tim Robinson, who notched a maiden half-century.

Robinson’s blistering 51 off 36 deliveries, embellished with two sixes and four fours, propelled New Zealand to a strong position at 93-1 in the first 10 overs.

However, Pakistan’s pace bowler Abbas Afridi put up a commendable performance, claiming a three-wicket haul and restricting New Zealand to 178-7.

Despite a solid start with Robinson and Tom Blundell contributing 56 runs for the opening partnership in just five overs, New Zealand faced setbacks as they lost crucial wickets, including dangerman Mark Chapman, who managed only eight runs.

Dean Foxcroft and skipper Michael Bracewell steadied the innings with contributions of 34 and 27 runs respectively, ensuring New Zealand maintained momentum in the latter part of the innings.

Both teams are gearing up for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the United States and the West Indies in June. In this crucial encounter, Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Pakistan faced challenges due to injuries to key players Mohammad Rizwan and Muhammad Irfan Khan, making way for Fakhar Zaman and Imad Wasim in the lineup.

Additionally, Pakistan made strategic changes, resting Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Abrar Ahmed, while giving opportunities to Mohammad Amir, Usama Mir, and Zaman Khan.

New Zealand also made alterations to their squad, introducing Josh Clarkson, Ben Sears, and Tom Blundell into the playing XI. The five-match series is currently tied at 1-1, with both teams securing victories in the second and third matches held in Rawalpindi.

With the series level, anticipation is high for the final match scheduled to take place in Lahore on April 27.
