Kapil Sharma and his team faced another setback after their show has been ended on the Netflix. It is, indeed, a sad and bad news for Kapil Sharma fans as The Great Indian Kapil Show has been wrapped up in less than two months after its premiere.
Archana Puran Singh shared a photo of a cake from the set on her Instagram stories, announcing the season’s end, leaving fans shocked and upset.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Archana confirmed the show’s departure, saying, “Yes, we have wrapped up the shoot of season one of TGIKS; we shot the last episode of the season yesterday.” She added, “It was great fun and celebration on the sets.
The journey so far on the show has been quite amazing. It was a delightful journey, and we had some amazing times on the sets.”
The Great Indian Kapil Show premiered on Netflix on March 30, 2024, with guests Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni. Subsequent episodes featured cricketers Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti Chopra, and Aamir Khan.
In previous episodes, Vicky and Sunny Kaushal shared childhood memories, while Aamir Khan graced the fifth episode as the guest.
Kapil had previously mentioned during a press conference, “Sunil, Krushna, Kiku, Rajiv and I have been friends for a very long time and how you see us on screen, is how we are in real life. And yes, we love Archana ji – I had to say this because she’s holding my house help hostage.”
Earlier, data from Netflix indicates that “The Great Indian Kapil Show,” a prominent program on the platform, is witnessing a decline in viewership after airing four episodes within a month.
The show was launched with the aim of captivating a new audience in India, drawing significant anticipation due to the much-anticipated reunion of host Kapil Sharma and his colleague Sunil Grover.
Despite featuring a lineup of star-studded guests such as Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Diljit Dosanjh, and Rohit Sharma, the show’s viewership appears to be waning.
During the debut episode, which showcased Ranbir Kapoor alongside his mother Neetu Kapoor and sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, the show amassed 2.4 million viewership hours, securing the third position on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list for that week, with a total of 2.5 million views.
However, as subsequent episodes were released, the show’s performance fluctuated. By the end of the second week, the total viewership hours had risen to 4.6 million, with total views reaching 2.6 million, although the show had slipped to the fifth position.
In the third week, it further descended in the rankings to the seventh spot, garnering 4.1 million viewership hours and 1.7 million total views.
As the first month concluded, the show’s total weekly viewership hours dwindled to 3.9 million, with a decline in total views to 1.2 million, resulting in a slip to the eighth position.
Despite experiencing a 50% decline in viewership, this show has consistently held the top position among series in India every week since its premiere.
This isn’t Kapil Sharma’s inaugural venture on Netflix; his journey began in 2022 with his first stand-up special, “Kapil Sharma: I’m Not Done Yet,” which didn’t secure a spot in the global top 10 rankings.
The series “Maamla Legal Hai” made its debut with 4.8 million hours viewed and 1.1 million total views.
On YouTube, full episodes of The Kapil Sharma Show—the original TV program—have garnered remarkable numbers. An episode uploaded by SET India on May 16, 2016, has amassed 52 million views.
