Heavy snowfall has covered several parts of Kaghan Valley, turning the region into a winter landscape while creating difficult driving conditions. As temperatures dropped sharply, police temporarily restricted traffic on the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad (MNJ) Road.
The restrictions affected travel between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, where slippery roads raised safety concerns. However, authorities continued allowing vehicles to reach Naran, the valley’s main commercial centre.
Naran Remains Accessible as Babusar Top Travel Is Restricted
According to a police official, road clearance operations restored traffic movement up to Naran. However, police temporarily stopped tourists from travelling further towards Babusar Top.
The restriction will remain in place until weather conditions improve and the route becomes safer for motorists. Meanwhile, visitors can still reach Naran, although authorities have urged drivers to remain cautious.
Snowfall started early Monday morning across several popular destinations, including Babusar Top, Saiful Muluk Lake, Battakundi, Basal, Lolosar Lake and Naran. Moreover, snow continued falling intermittently throughout the day, affecting conditions across the valley.
Tourists Continue Visiting Despite Slippery Roads
Despite the challenging weather, Kaghan Valley continues attracting tourists hoping to experience the snowfall. Hussain Deen, chairman of the Kaghan Valley Hotel Association, said visitors were still arriving because authorities had allowed traffic up to Naran.
However, he advised motorists to drive carefully along the Balakot-Naran route. He also warned against reckless driving because snowfall had made several road sections slippery.
The warning is particularly important for visitors travelling through mountainous areas, where changing weather can make driving conditions difficult.
Four-Wheel-Drive Vehicles Can Reach Saiful Muluk Lake
Abdul Rasheed Tanoli, sub-divisional officer of wildlife in Kaghan Valley, confirmed that snowfall had brought temperatures down across the region.
He said four-wheel-drive vehicles could still use the road connecting Naran with Saiful Muluk Lake. Consequently, tourists continued reaching the area to enjoy its snowy scenery.
However, travel beyond Naran towards Babusar Top remains restricted until conditions improve. Visitors should therefore follow police instructions and avoid attempting to cross closed sections.
The snowfall has brought a seasonal change to Kaghan Valley, attracting visitors while presenting challenges for road users. Although Naran remains accessible, motorists must exercise caution throughout their journeys.
Authorities have kept access towards Babusar Top restricted for now, prioritising public safety amid the winter conditions.
