KARACHI: The Sindh government has transferred administrative control of all government dispensaries across the province to a government-funded non-governmental organization (NGO). The move marks a major restructuring of the provincial healthcare system, according to official communications from the Sindh Health Department.
Media reports said the Health Department issued an official directive to all District Health Officers (DHOs). Under the new framework, the NGO will manage the daily operations, administration, and overall functioning of government dispensaries across Sindh.
As a result, the provincial government aims to improve service delivery through a revised management structure. However, the organization will continue to receive government funding while handling operational responsibilities.
## DHOs to focus on immunization campaigns
The restructuring also changes the responsibilities of District Health Officers. Instead of supervising dispensary operations, DHOs will primarily oversee polio vaccination drives and routine immunization programs across the province.
Moreover, the shift allows health officials to dedicate more attention to disease prevention and vaccination efforts. Authorities believe this approach will strengthen public health campaigns and improve coordination at the district level.
## New management model for healthcare services
Health experts say the decision reflects a new strategy for managing primary healthcare facilities. By separating operational management from government oversight, the Sindh government hopes to introduce more efficient administrative practices.
Furthermore, the government-funded NGO will oversee dispensary operations while the Health Department continues its regulatory role. Officials expect the revised system to streamline service delivery and enhance accountability.
The restructuring will take effect after District Health Officers receive the official directive. The Sindh Health Department will coordinate implementation across the province to ensure a smooth transition under the new administrative framework.
