The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed it foiled a major terrorist plot by arresting two suspected members of the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in Karachi.
Officials said the arrests followed an intelligence-based operation conducted with federal intelligence agencies. The operation took place on July 6.
Explosives Recovered During Intelligence-Based Operation
According to the CTD, authorities arrested Mujahid Baloch and Farid Baloch during the operation. Officials alleged both suspects received training at a BLA camp.
The department said the suspects received training in reconnaissance and communication. It also claimed they operated in Karachi under commanders Sajid Baloch and Bashir Zaib.
Investigators recovered four kilogrammes of explosive material from the suspects. They also seized a detonator, a prima card, and a ball ring.
The CTD alleged the suspects planned to target sensitive installations and law enforcement offices. Authorities have registered cases against both men.
Investigation Continues Following Recent Security Concerns
Officials said investigators continue questioning the suspects to identify possible accomplices. Meanwhile, CTD and intelligence agencies have formed dedicated teams for further action.
Authorities said future operations will depend on information obtained during the investigation. The department expects the inquiry to uncover additional suspects.
The arrests came days after terrorists attacked a Rangers facility in Karachi on June 27. The assault resulted in the deaths of three security personnel.
According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, terrorism increased in Sindh during June. The organisation recorded four attacks in June compared with one attack in May.
