A Senate subcommittee has recommended reopening Mazar-e-Quaid to the general public. The panel also called for stronger security and improved management at the national monument. Moreover, members stressed the need to enhance visitor facilities.
The subcommittee met under the chairmanship of Senator Waqar Mehdi. Later, he briefed the media alongside Senator Bushra Anjum.
Committee Reviews Security And Management
The committee announced another meeting with the Mazar-e-Quaid Management Board within the next 15 days. Officials will review progress on the recommendations during that session.
Speaking to reporters, Senator Waqar Mehdi described Mazar-e-Quaid as the face of Pakistan. Therefore, he urged all relevant institutions to improve its administration and visitor services.
He acknowledged that security concerns remain the main challenge. Furthermore, he noted that the mausoleum has remained closed to the public for the past three to four years.
Lawmakers Push For Early Public Access
Senator Waqar Mehdi expressed hope that authorities would reopen the monument after resolving security issues. He also announced the formation of a committee to review existing security arrangements.
The committee will recommend measures that improve public access while maintaining safety. Consequently, officials expect a balanced approach to visitor management and security.
Meanwhile, Senator Bushra Anjum said efforts are underway to further beautify Mazar-e-Quaid. She also urged the media to highlight the importance of the national monument. Additionally, she supported reopening the mausoleum to visitors as soon as possible after security concerns are addressed.
