Concerns have grown among travel agents over a new vaccination requirement for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims involving a NADRA vaccination card.
The Travel Agents Association of Pakistan (TAAP) has approached the federal government, seeking clear instructions on the implementation of the new requirement.
Travel Agents Seek Clarity From Health Ministry
TAAP has raised concerns over a letter issued by the Karachi Airport Health Officer regarding the vaccination card.
The association said the instructions are unclear and have created confusion among travel agents and passengers.
It also questioned whether the NADRA vaccination card will be mandatory only for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims or for all passengers travelling abroad.
Concerns Over Vaccination Timing and Availability
TAAP said vaccinations for international travellers should ideally be administered six to seven days before departure.
The association also expressed concern about administering four vaccines at the same time, saying it could affect passengers’ health.
According to TAAP, the vaccine recommended under the new requirement is currently unavailable in the market.
The association urged the government to ensure sufficient vaccine supplies and establish dedicated vaccination centres for travellers.
TAAP Seeks Delay in Implementation
TAAP warned that implementing the requirement from September 14 could create difficulties for pilgrims and other international travellers.
The association has asked the government to defer implementation and provide clear guidelines before enforcing the requirement.
TAAP also demanded that standard operating procedures for the NADRA vaccination card be developed in consultation with travel agents and other relevant stakeholders.
