Rare Ceremony Turns Childhood Dream Into Reality
A wedding in Indiaโs southern state of Kerala has captured widespread attention after twins appeared in nearly every major role at the ceremony.
Twin brothers Akhil K. Thomas and Nikhil K. Thomas married twin sisters Magi Mary Thomas and Maria Mary Thomas in a double wedding at the historic St. Maryโs Syro-Malabar Metropolitan Cathedral in Changanassery, Kerala.
The unusual ceremony took place on July 30, 2026, and became even more remarkable when guests discovered that the priests officiating the marriages were also twins.
Twin priests Father Anto Pezhumkattil and Father Ajo Pezhumkattil, from the Kanjirappally Diocese, conducted the religious ceremony.
They were assisted at the altar by another pair of twin brothers, Jeron James and Johon James, from Pala.
The unusual combination meant that the two grooms, two brides, two priests and two altar servers were all twins.
Images and videos from the wedding have since circulated widely online, drawing fascination from social media users in India and abroad.
Twin Sisters Had Dreamed of Such a Wedding Since Childhood
The extraordinary arrangement was not entirely accidental.
According to reports, Magi and Maria had dreamed since childhood of celebrating their marriages surrounded by other twins.
Their families also supported the idea and helped turn the unusual plan into reality.
The sisters specifically began searching for twin priests who could conduct their wedding ceremony.
Their search eventually led them to a church in Kothanalloor, an area known for gatherings involving twins.
That is how they reportedly found Fathers Anto and Ajo Pezhumkattil.
The priests agreed to participate when they were approached by the families.
They later described the ceremony as a memorable experience, noting the unusual similarity between the lives of the couples and their own journey as twin brothers who entered the priesthood together.
The ceremony therefore became much more than an unusual visual spectacle for the families.
It represented the fulfilment of a wedding idea the sisters had imagined for years.
Twin Brothers Work in Merchant Navy, Sisters in IT Sector
Akhil and Nikhil are the twin sons of Kunjumon Thomas and Jomol, from Vettuparambil in Changanassery.
Magi and Maria are the twin daughters of Tomichan and Marykutty, from Kulathoor in Keralaโs Pathanamthitta district.
Both grooms reportedly work in the Merchant Navy, while the twin sisters are employed in the information technology sector.
During the ceremony, Akhil married Magi while Nikhil married Maria.
Guests saw the two couples standing side by side as the Catholic wedding rites were performed simultaneously.
The presence of twin priests and twin altar servers added another layer of symmetry to the celebration.
For many attendees, it was the first time they had witnessed so many sets of twins performing central roles in a single wedding ceremony.
Wedding Goes Viral Weeks After Ceremony
Although the wedding took place at the end of July, photographs and videos gained renewed attention on social media during August.
International outlets and social media pages began sharing images showing the two couples alongside the twin priests and altar servers.
The photographs quickly generated amused and fascinated reactions, with many users initially questioning whether the scene had been staged.
However, the ceremony was a real wedding involving the two families at the Changanassery cathedral.
The spectacle has stood out because weddings involving twin brothers and twin sisters, while unusual, have occurred before.
What made this ceremony particularly distinctive was the decision to extend the twin theme to the clergy and altar attendants.
The result was an almost perfectly matched wedding scene involving four pairs of twins in major ceremonial roles.
For Akhil, Nikhil, Magi and Maria, the event marked the beginning of two marriages.
For their families, it also fulfilled a childhood dream that ultimately produced one of Keralaโs most unusual weddings.
