Meta has unveiled several new features for its Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, as revealed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a recent Instagram reel.
The new features include a cat-eye frame style, video-calling capabilities, Apple Music connectivity, and the launch of the multimodal AI assistant for the United States and Canada.
In the Instagram reel, Zuckerberg, 39, demonstrates the video-calling feature as he engages in a conversation with Eva Chen, 44, who oversees fashion at Instagram. The duo discuss the new Skyler frames and chain lengths, acknowledging the recent craze among netizens over Zuckerberg wearing them.
The existing Wayfarer and Headliner models are also receiving new colors. The Headliner, featuring rounder lenses, will also have a low-bridge fit for those whose glasses tend to slip down their face.
The video-calling feature, rolling out gradually according to Meta’s blog notes, allows users to make calls via both WhatsApp and Messenger.
Additionally, the Apple Music feature pairs the app with the glasses, enabling hands-free control of Apple Music to play any song, playlist, station, or artist. Users can also request recommendations based on their listening history.
Meta’s multimodal AI, initially launched in December through an early access program, is now available to all US and Canada glasses users in beta.
This feature allows users to take pictures with the glasses and receive assistance from Meta’s AI for tasks like creating Instagram captions and translating signs.
