Pakistan recorded its highest-ever monthly workersโ remittance inflow in May 2026. Overseas Pakistanis sent $4.25 billion during the month, providing strong support to the countryโs external sector.
According to data from the State Bank of Pakistan, remittances increased significantly compared to previous periods. The inflow was 20 percent higher than April 2026 and 15 percent above May 2025 levels. Analysts attributed the surge primarily to seasonal transfers linked to Eid celebrations. Consequently, overseas Pakistanis increased financial support for their families back home.
Saudi Arabia and UAE Lead Remittance Inflows
Saudi Arabia remained the largest source of remittances during May. Pakistani workers in the kingdom sent approximately $1.03 billion. Meanwhile, the UAE contributed $1.01 billion in remittances during the month. Together, the two countries accounted for nearly half of total inflows.
The United Kingdom ranked third, with remittances reaching $645 million. Similarly, inflows from the United States stood at $350 million.
Analysts also noted strong growth from European Union countries and other international markets. Therefore, remittance inflows remained broadly diversified across regions.
Pakistan on Track for Record Annual Remittances
Cumulative remittances between July and May of FY26 reached $38.1 billion. This figure represents a 9 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The latest performance places Pakistan on course for its highest annual remittance total. Moreover, strong inflows continue to support foreign exchange reserves and external account stability.
Economic experts described remittances as a key pillar of the national economy. They emphasized the important role played by overseas Pakistanis during challenging economic conditions.ย
With one month remaining in the fiscal year, analysts at Topline Research expect total remittances to exceed $41 billion. If achieved, the figure would establish a new annual record for Pakistan.
