LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority launched a massive province-wide crackdown against tax defaulters on Wednesday. Officials initiated this aggressive campaign acting strictly upon the direct orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Consequently, enforcement teams targeted multiple non-compliant businesses across several major divisions to recover pending state revenues.
According to a departmental spokesperson, authorities executed these enforcement operations systematically across the Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, and Multan regions. During these sweeping raids, officials sealed the main offices of 15 major property developers. Furthermore, they took strict action against these entities specifically for their deliberate non-payment of mandatory provincial taxes.
In addition to targeting property developers, the ongoing campaign focused heavily on the local hospitality sector. Therefore, enforcement teams sealed several popular marquees and marriage halls for blatantly violating standard tax regulations. Meanwhile, in the provincial capital of Lahore, authorities seized official sales records from numerous restaurants.
Following these sudden inspections, officials immediately issued legal notices to 25 different commercial establishments. The inspection teams confiscated these business records after discovering major financial discrepancies. Specifically, they found significant differences between the officially declared sales figures and the actual tax payments submitted.
The Punjab Revenue Authority stated that repeated regulatory violations directly resulted in heavy financial penalties. Thus, they initiated sealing actions and issued strict legal notices against all non-compliant business owners. Currently, the department remains fully committed to eliminating widespread tax evasion across the province.
Chairman Muazzam Iqbal confirmed that the authority continues its strict action against systemic irregularities in sales tax collection. Furthermore, he emphasized their focus on penalizing the deliberate misreporting of official tax returns. Ultimately, he added that the department is taking stringent enforcement measures to ensure complete compliance and maximize revenue collection.
