NADRA has launched a digital process for arms license application in Punjab as part of an effort to make public services easier. Individuals can now apply on the Punjab Arms License portal and perform biometric registration by means of the Pak ID application.
Shift to digital convenience
Prior to this, candidates were required to undertake extensive procedures personally. But now this system seems to be in line with the efforts towards digital governance.
Consequently, there has been a significant reduction in the time and effort involved in travelling as well as other procedural aspects.
Additionally, this move is likely to have a positive impact on individuals residing in distant locations where access to government offices was a challenge. It is also believed that digitisation will result in accurate documentation.
Policy changes and oversight measures
On the other hand, the new development comes after a notification from the Punjab Home Department in November 2025. It is important to note that the suspension of all processes related to verification and computerization of arms licences was declared.
Moreover, a last chance has been provided to people, organizations, and security firms to computerize their arms licences.
Furthermore, the Home Department has called for detailed reports from divisional commissioners and judicial officials. The reports are expected to discuss computerization of licences from March to November.
