Traffic Police Intensify Province-Wide Action
Traffic police have intensified operations across Punjab against vehicles using fake, fancy and non-standard number plates.
The crackdown was launched on the direct instructions of DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir.
Authorities said more than 175,000 vehicles and motorcycles have been penalized across the province this year for violating registration plate rules.
In Lahore alone, traffic police have taken action against more than 42,000 vehicles and motorcycles for displaying illegal or non-standard number plates.
DIG Says Number Plate Is Vehicleโs Legal Identity
DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir said a number plate is the main legal identity of any vehicle.
He said hiding, changing or tampering with a vehicleโs identity is a serious legal offense.
The DIG directed field officers to stop vehicles and motorcycles immediately if they are found using fake, fancy, altered or unauthorized plates.
He said strict action will continue against motorists who violate official number plate standards.
Traffic One App to Support Enforcement
To strengthen the campaign, the DIG directed Chief Traffic Officers and District Traffic Officers to use the Traffic One app for faster enforcement.
The app will help traffic officials take swift action against vehicles carrying forged or illegal plates.
DIG Nazir also urged citizens to follow official registration rules and avoid using unapproved plates.
He said motorists should only use number plates issued according to Excise Department guidelines.
Authorities said the campaign aims to improve vehicle identification, support law enforcement and reduce the misuse of fake registration plates across Punjab.
