Absences Fuel Speculation Over Internal Differences
Signs of possible discontent within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emerged on Sunday after more than 25 lawmakers remained absent from a parliamentary party meeting held at the Chief Ministerโs House in Peshawar.
The session, chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, reportedly drew attendance from 75 members of the partyโs 92-member parliamentary group.
Party sources said several lawmakers, including senior figures, did not attend the gathering. While many absent members cited foreign travel or prior commitments, reports suggested that some legislators were dissatisfied after being excluded from the provincial cabinet.
Despite the speculation, Afridi dismissed suggestions of internal divisions. Addressing participants, he described the turnout as evidence of party unity and resilience.
He stated that opponents had attempted to create rifts within PTI but had failed to weaken the partyโs cohesion. Furthermore, he reiterated the partyโs commitment to the vision and ideology of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The meeting also included discussions on the upcoming provincial budget and concerns regarding Khanโs health.
Party Leaders Deny Forward Bloc Reports
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan strongly rejected reports suggesting the existence of a forward bloc within the party or the provincial government.
Speaking to the media, Gohar said differences of opinion were a normal part of democratic politics but insisted that all party members remained united under the leadership of the PTI founder.
He emphasized that key decisions would continue to be made through consultation and consensus. Additionally, he maintained that lawmakers who missed the meeting were primarily absent due to travel commitments.
Gohar also reaffirmed support for Chief Minister Afridi, stating that the provincial government operated according to the guidance of the party leadership and enjoyed full backing from PTI ranks.
Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan also rejected claims of factionalism within the party. He said lawmakers remained committed to strengthening the provincial government and warned that any member deviating from the party line could face serious political consequences.
As budget preparations continue, PTI leaders insist the party remains united despite ongoing speculation regarding internal disagreements and cabinet-related grievances.
