The HBL Pakistan Super League is set to return in 2027, with the 12th edition scheduled from March 18 to May 2. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the tournament window after consultations with all eight franchises. The decision followed the HBL PSL Governing Council meeting held in London on September 1, 2026.
Eight Teams to Return for PSL 12
All eight franchises will compete in the upcoming season. The expanded eight-team format will therefore continue for a second consecutive season. The league added two new franchises ahead of the 2026 edition, marking a major expansion in the competition.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the previous season demonstrated the league’s growing appeal.
“HBL PSL 11 showed the world what this league is capable of – thrilling moments that had the whole nation transfixed, record crowds, record broadcasts. HBL PSL 12 will raise the bar further.”
He added that the PCB remains committed to delivering another successful season.
PSL 12 Follows Landmark 2026 Season
The upcoming tournament will build on several milestones from HBL PSL 11. The 2026 season featured eight teams for the first time. It also introduced the league’s first-ever player auction, replacing the previous draft system.
The final at Gaddafi Stadium also attracted a record crowd of 32,461 spectators. Peshawar Zalmi eventually lifted the trophy after defeating Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the final on May 3, 2026.
The victory ended Zalmi’s nine-year wait for another PSL title.
Player Auction and Retentions Ahead
With the tournament window now confirmed, attention will turn to the preparations for PSL 12. The upcoming milestones include direct signings, player retentions, the trade window and the player auction.
HBL PSL CEO Salman Naseer said these stages would create further excitement before the tournament begins.
“Last season changed what people expect from this league and we intend to meet every one of those expectations in 2027.”
He added that the latest announcement marked only the beginning of preparations for the new season.
PSL 12 Schedule Details to Follow
The PCB has yet to announce the complete match schedule and venues for HBL PSL 12. Details about the player auction and ticketing arrangements will also follow in due course. The 2027 season will therefore give fans another chance to watch all eight franchises compete for the HBL PSL title.
