IHC grants bail to Sheikh Rashid

Islamabad High Court has approved bail application of Awami Muslim. Rashid’s post-arrest bail plea had been rejected twice by Islamabad’s sessions court, prompting him to approach the IHC seeking release.

ISLAMABAD: Sheikh Rashid, Awami Muslim League leader has been granted bail on Thursday, by IHC. Islamabad High Court granted bail to Sheikh Rashid in exchange for PKR 50,000 surety bonds.

The former interior minister had requested bail in the case against him after accusing former president Asif Ali Zardari of plotting to assassinate the former prime minister Imran Khan.

Sheikh Rashid’s lawyer in today’s hearing requested the court for Sheikh Rashid’s post-arrest bail. The extra sessions judge rejected the bail request based on a single allegation, he continued. Court asked about the accusation imposed.

Court feared that Sheikh Rashid will make similar statements if he was released, the lawyer told.

Raja informed the court that a complaint was filed against Sheikh Rashid after his statement aired on TV. The former interior minister is currently in jail, he continued.

The court then questioned Mr. Raja about the accusation made against Rashid. Moreover, the court asked whether news channels aired this news. He did make a statement, and it was broadcasted on news stations, the lawyer replied.

General Jahangir Jadoon of Islamabad’s legal team arrived at the podium after Raja finished his remarks. The government lawyer told the court that Rashid had also attacked Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Raja stepped in and clarified that the government attorney was dealing with a different matter at this point. The PEMRA provided information about Rashid’s comments, investigating officer informed the court.

Moreover, the officer stated that Rashid claimed to have acquired this news from Imran Khan. He claimed that when Rashid was probed, no evidence of Asif Zardari’s alleged plot to kill Imran Khan has been discovered. The court then withheld judgment in the matter, which was made public later.
