Police in Naran on Thursday arrested four tourists after their vehicle was swept away by the Kunhar River, officials said. The incident occurred a day earlier when the tourists drove their car into the river despite restrictions under Section 144 imposed by the district administration of Mansehra to stop people from approaching waterways.
According to police, the tourists violated the ban while attempting to record a video of their vehicle crossing the river. The car lost control and water currents carried it away. Rescue teams reached the site promptly and saved all four individuals, preventing loss of life.
DSP Sadaqat Khan said authorities later recovered the Vigo Dala vehicle from the river on Thursday. Police took the tourists into custody after the recovery and produced them before a local court.
Officials identified the arrested individuals as Sultan, son of Zahid Jameel; Ali Usman, son of Shahbaz; Mohsin Khan, son of Muhammad Zaman; and Asif Ali, son of Muhammad Akram. All four belong to Sheikhupura.
Police reiterated that Section 144 remains in force due to safety concerns, especially during the monsoon season. Authorities warned tourists and locals to follow official advisories and avoid rivers and streams. They said strict action would continue against violations to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
