The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has announced candidates for four reserved women’s seats. The party finalized nominations ahead of upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
According to party sources, Maryam Zaman, Maryam Idrees, Seharish Qamar, and Raft Abid secured nominations. Moreover, the PML-N parliamentary board recommended all four candidates.
The party also awarded Abdul Rahman a ticket for the overseas reserved seat. Elections for eight reserved seats will take place on August 24.
Women Candidates Named for Reserved Positions
Newly elected members will take their oath on August 25. The ceremony will formally mark the formation of the new AJK Legislative Assembly.
After the oath-taking ceremony, authorities will announce the speaker and deputy speaker election schedule. The assembly will then elect a new speaker before selecting a prime minister.
Sources stated that the prime minister’s election is expected on August 27. Meanwhile, political consultations regarding government formation have already concluded.
Government Formation Process Moves Forward
The PML-N currently holds a strong numerical position in the assembly. Consequently, the party has emerged as the single largest political force.
Party leaders remain confident about forming the next government in Azad Kashmir. In addition, sources identified Shah Ghulam Qadir as the leading contender.
He is widely considered the strongest candidate for the 17th prime minister’s post. Both the PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party have finalised candidates for all reserved seats.
Political activity has therefore intensified before the scheduled elections. Observers expect a smooth transition as the assembly prepares to begin its new term.
The upcoming electoral process will determine key constitutional positions and shape the region’s future political leadership.
