Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistanโs commitment to protecting Chinese nationals working across the country. He described their security as a top national priority while addressing the Pakistan-China Pharmaceutical and Healthcare B2B Investment Conference in Islamabad. Moreover, he pledged that authorities would take every possible step to ensure their safety.
PM Highlights Security And Investment Cooperation
Speaking at the conference, the prime minister said Pakistan would leave no stone unturned to provide the best possible security. He emphasized that protecting Chinese citizens remained paramount for the government.
Additionally, the event witnessed the signing of several agreements between Pakistani and Chinese companies. The agreements covered healthcare, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sectors. According to PM Shehbaz, the combined value of the investment deals reached nearly $440 million.
He said the partnerships reflected growing economic cooperation between Pakistan and China. His remarks came two days after State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudhry announced enhanced security measures around the China-operated Saindak copper and gold mine.
Authorities increased protection after terrorists disrupted supply routes in parts of Balochistan. Meanwhile, security forces continue conducting Operation Shaban, a high-intensity counterterrorism campaign launched after several deadly attacks in the province.
Chinese Projects Have Faced Repeated Terror Attacks
Chinese nationals and development projects have repeatedly faced terrorist attacks in Pakistan during recent years. According to data previously shared by the National Counter Terrorism Authority, terrorists killed 20 Chinese citizens and injured 34 others between 2021 and December 2024.
In March 2024, a suicide bombing in Bisham killed five Chinese nationals working on the Dasu dam project. Earlier, a suicide attack outside Karachi Universityโs Confucius Institute killed three Chinese nationals in April 2022.
Additionally, a 2021 attack near the Dasu hydropower project claimed the lives of nine Chinese engineers and two Frontier Corps personnel. The government continues strengthening security to protect Chinese nationals and strategic development projects across Pakistan.
