ISLAMABAD: Pakistanโs Foreign Office officially announced on Friday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will undertake an official three-day visit to China from May 23 to 26. The visit will strengthen bilateral cooperation and strategic coordination between the two countries.
During his weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that the visit would take place at the invitation of the Chinese government. He added that the trip carried special significance because Pakistan and China are celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
According to the Foreign Office, the visit will provide an opportunity for both countries to reaffirm the strength of their longstanding strategic partnership. Furthermore, the two sides aim to advance their shared vision of building an even closer Pakistan-China community with a common future.
Meetings With Chinese Leadership Planned
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will hold meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. Officials said the leadership-level discussions will focus on political, economic, and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The Foreign Office noted that both sides will review progress in bilateral relations and explore new opportunities for collaboration in key sectors. In addition, the visit is expected to deepen political trust and further strengthen strategic coordination between Islamabad and Beijing.
Investment Conference to Boost Economic Cooperation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will begin his visit from the Chinese city of Hangzhou in Zhejiang province. There, he will chair the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference focusing on information technology, telecommunications, energy storage, and agriculture.
Meanwhile, in Beijing, the prime minister will attend a reception hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
Officials believe the visit will help expand economic cooperation, encourage investment partnerships, and consolidate the historic friendship between the two neighboring countries.
