Pakistan Highlights Diplomatic Role in Securing Agreement
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed gratitude to several regional leaders for supporting Pakistanโs diplomatic efforts that contributed to the recently announced agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending months of conflict.
Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister specifically thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for what he described as a highly supportive role in helping advance negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Furthermore, Shehbaz acknowledged the contributions of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other regional partners for their continued backing throughout Pakistanโs mediation efforts.
The premier said the support of friendly nations played a significant role in creating an environment conducive to dialogue and conflict resolution.
Government and Military Leadership Praised
During his address, Shehbaz also commended the efforts of key Pakistani officials involved in the diplomatic initiative. He praised Field Marshal Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and officials of the Foreign Ministry for their role in facilitating discussions between the two sides.
According to the prime minister, Pakistan remained actively engaged in diplomatic contacts for months, encouraging dialogue and promoting peaceful solutions to regional tensions.
He described the reported agreement as a significant development that could contribute to greater stability across the Middle East.
Agreement Signals New Diplomatic Phase
Meanwhile, attention remains focused on the implementation of the understanding announced by both countries. US President Donald Trump stated that an agreement with Iran had been finalized and announced plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift the US naval blockade imposed on Iran.
Earlier on Monday, Shehbaz Sharif announced that Washington and Tehran had reached a peace agreement following intensive negotiations, with both sides agreeing to end military operations across multiple fronts, including Lebanon.
Pakistan has played a mediation role since helping secure a ceasefire on April 8, following the conflict that began after US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
Analysts believe the agreement could open a new chapter in regional diplomacy while reducing tensions that have affected security and economic stability across the Middle East.
