Fuel Prices Reduced After Peace Deal
Petrol and diesel prices still include 29 percent tax despite the governmentโs latest reduction in fuel rates, according to Petroleum Division sources.
The government reduced petrol price by Rs74.28 per litre on Saturday.
The new petrol price has been fixed at Rs299.50 per litre.
Diesel price was reduced by Rs67.31 per litre.
The new diesel price now stands at Rs311.47 per litre.
The reduction came after international oil prices eased following the interim peace deal between the United States and Iran.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the price cut and said the government had fulfilled its promise to pass relief to the public.
Petrol Carries Rs88.07 Per Litre Taxes
According to sources, petrol still carries Rs88.07 per litre in taxes.
This includes Rs19.32 per litre in customs duty.
It also includes Rs66.25 per litre in petroleum levy and Rs2.50 per litre in climate support levy.
The total tax burden accounts for around 29 percent of the current petrol price.
Sources said diesel also carries 29 percent tax.
Total taxes on diesel amount to Rs91.15 per litre.
This includes Rs15.68 per litre in customs duty, Rs72.97 per litre in petroleum levy, and Rs2.50 per litre in climate support levy.
Weekly Reviews Continue Amid Global Volatility
The government usually reviews petroleum prices every 15 days.
However, fuel prices have been reviewed weekly since the US-Israeli conflict with Iran began on February 28.
Petrol was priced at Rs258.17 per litre when the conflict started.
It later rose sharply to Rs458.41 per litre before falling again.
Diesel was priced at Rs275.70 per litre at the start of the conflict and later climbed to Rs520.35 per litre.
The latest reduction has provided major relief to consumers, transporters, and businesses.
However, the tax component remains a significant part of the final fuel price.
Analysts say future prices will depend on global oil rates, exchange rate movements, tax policy, and the stability of the regional peace process.
