New Buses to Strengthen BRT Fleet
A new fleet of 52 buses for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit system is ready to be shipped to Pakistan.
The development marks an important step toward expanding public transport services in Peshawar. The new buses are expected to improve travel capacity and provide better facilities to daily commuters.
According to Trans Peshawar, the procurement was carried out on the instructions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The aim is to strengthen the existing BRT fleet and meet the growing transport needs of the provincial capital.
Officials said the first batch of 25 buses is expected to arrive in Pakistan in early July. The remaining buses will be delivered in phases.
After the arrival of all new vehicles, the total number of buses in the Peshawar BRT fleet will increase to 296.
Waiting Times Expected to Reduce
The additional buses will operate on both the main BRT corridor and feeder routes.
Officials said the expansion will increase service capacity and help manage rising passenger demand. It is also expected to reduce waiting times at stations and improve the overall commuting experience.
Peshawar BRT has become a key public transport service for thousands of daily passengers. The addition of new buses is expected to support smoother operations, especially during peak travel hours.
Trans Peshawar said work is also underway to introduce new BRT routes. These routes will expand access to safe, reliable, and high-quality transport services in more areas of the city.
Pink Bus Service for Women Planned
Trans Peshawar also announced that the new buses will help launch a dedicated pink bus service for women.
Under the plan, specially designated buses will be reserved exclusively for female passengers. The initiative aims to provide women with a safer, more comfortable, and more convenient travel option.
The service is expected to be especially useful during rush hours when passenger pressure is high.
Trans Peshawar said the fleet expansion reflects its commitment to improving urban mobility in Peshawar. The authority said the project is being carried forward under the guidance of its Board of Directors, Secretary Transport Muhammad Zubair, and KPUMA Managing Director Iftikhar Khan.
The arrival of the new buses is expected to support the long-term growth of public transport in the city.
