ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly and Senate will meet today after a prolonged recess to consider important legislation and major national issues.
According to official agendas, lawmakers will consider 17 bills, including 10 in the Senate and seven in the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Senate will take up a 69-point agenda featuring several proposed amendments and other legislative matters.
The upper house will consider the Election Act Amendment Bill, alongside amendments to laws concerning anti-rape investigations and trials.
It will also consider the Imports and Exports Control Amendment Bill, 2026, and other legislation concerning science and technology zones.
Furthermore, lawmakers will discuss amendments related to civil servants and service tribunals.
Both houses will also consider a proposed unanimous resolution concerning the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Tรผrkiye signed the agreement on August 7, establishing collective security commitments among the three countries.
Under the pact, an armed attack against one member will be treated as an attack against all three.
Moreover, lawmakers are expected to hold a detailed debate on proposals to create new provinces.
The discussion will cover constitutional, administrative and political implications of establishing additional federating units.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently called for more administrative units to modernize Pakistanโs governance system.
His remarks triggered mixed reactions from political leaders, with some supporting and others opposing the proposal.
Therefore, the parliamentary debate could intensify discussions over Pakistanโs future administrative structure.
