Pakistan Hosts Key Diplomatic Engagement at Lake Lucerne Summit
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a significant meeting with a United States delegation led by Vice President JD Vance ahead of crucial negotiations between Washington and Tehran in Switzerland.
The talks are taking place under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a landmark agreement that opened a new path for diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran. The negotiations, being held at the Lake Lucerne Summit, represent the first formal follow-up discussions since the signing of the agreement earlier this month.
According to official sources, Pakistan is participating in the process as a facilitator and mediator, continuing its efforts to support dialogue and regional stability.

The technical-level discussions are expected to continue for four days and involve senior representatives from the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan.
Iran’s delegation is being led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, while the United States team is headed by Vice President JD Vance. The talks are focused on implementing commitments made under the Islamabad MoU and addressing key regional security concerns.
Officials said the discussions will cover issues related to regional stability, the future of the Iran nuclear programme, maritime security, and efforts to preserve ceasefire arrangements in conflict zones across the Middle East.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office stated that Islamabad remains committed to supporting constructive dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution through diplomatic channels.
Regional Peace Efforts Gain Momentum Following Islamabad Agreement
The Switzerland meeting comes days after the United States and Iran formally signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement was designed to reduce tensions and create a framework for long-term engagement between both countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to hold separate bilateral meetings with representatives from the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Switzerland. These engagements aim to strengthen diplomatic cooperation and reinforce support for regional peace initiatives.
Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism before arriving in Switzerland, stating that continued diplomacy remains essential for maintaining stability across the region.
Observers view the Lake Lucerne Summit as an important test of whether the momentum created by the Islamabad MoU can be transformed into lasting diplomatic progress. The outcome of these discussions may shape future regional security arrangements and influence broader peace efforts across the Middle East.
