Pakistan on Wednesday lodged a strong demarche with the United States. The move followed remarks by the US ambassador to India regarding Jammu and Kashmir.
The Foreign Office summoned the US charge dโaffaires in Islamabad. Officials conveyed Pakistanโs objections over what it described as factually incorrect statements.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan strongly condemned and rejected the remarks. The government objected to the description of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India.
Foreign Office Reaffirms Position on Kashmir
The Foreign Office said Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognised disputed territory. It stated that the issue awaits a final settlement.
Officials said the dispute should be resolved according to relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. They also stressed the importance of considering the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Pakistan reiterated its longstanding position on the status of the region. The government maintained that the dispute remains unresolved under international law.
Islamabad Raises Concerns With Washington
The Foreign Office described the ambassadorโs comments as irresponsible. It argued that the remarks contradicted the United Statesโ documented position on Kashmir.
Furthermore, officials said the statement conflicted with commitments to international law. They also referenced the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Pakistan conveyed its concerns directly to the US mission in Islamabad. The demarche formally recorded the governmentโs protest over the remarks.
The latest diplomatic exchange highlights continuing sensitivities surrounding the Kashmir dispute. Both countries are expected to remain engaged through diplomatic channels on the matter.
