Thirty Iranian Nationals to Transit Through Karachi Before Returning Home
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan announced on Wednesday that it will facilitate the repatriation of around 30 Iranian seafarers, reinforcing ongoing humanitarian cooperation with neighbouring Iran during a period of intensified regional diplomacy.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the development in a statement shared on social media. According to the announcement, the group consists of eight Iranian fishermen rescued by a British vessel after their boat ran aground at sea, along with 22 crew members from the vessel Lenore/Davina, which was recently intercepted by US authorities.
Officials said all 30 individuals are expected to pass through Karachi in the coming days before continuing their journey back to Iran.
Dar emphasized that Pakistani authorities remain in close coordination with Iranian, British and American officials to ensure the safe transit and timely return of the seafarers. He also reaffirmed Islamabadโs commitment to humanitarian cooperation and regional goodwill.
Coordination Continues With International Partners
The repatriation effort reflects ongoing collaboration among several countries to manage humanitarian and maritime issues affecting civilians in the region.
Pakistani officials stated that arrangements are being finalized to ensure smooth travel procedures and safe passage for the Iranian nationals. Furthermore, authorities described the initiative as part of broader efforts to support people affected by maritime incidents and regional tensions.
Diplomatic Engagements Remain Active
Meanwhile, Dar also held a telephone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to discuss recent regional developments.
According to the Foreign Office, the two ministers exchanged views on the latest understandings reached between the United States and Iran and reviewed preparations for the upcoming signing of a memorandum of understanding scheduled to take place in Bรผrgenstock, Switzerland, later this week.
Additionally, both sides discussed preparations for the forthcoming Regional Four Foreign Ministersโ meeting and agreed to maintain close coordination on key diplomatic issues.
The developments highlight Pakistanโs continued engagement in humanitarian initiatives and regional diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting stability and cooperation.
