PAA Issues Fresh NOTAM to Continue Restrictions
ISLAMABAD โ Pakistan has extended its airspace closure for all Indian-registered, owned, or operated aircraft, including military flights, through a fresh Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA). Consequently, the restriction will remain in effect until 04:59 AM (PST) on May 24, 2026.
The decision marks the continuation of a policy that has now completed one year. Moreover, authorities confirmed that the extension applies uniformly to both civilian and military aviation linked to India. As a result, Indian carriers and defence flights must continue to avoid Pakistani airspace during this period.
In addition, the PAA stated that the measure aims to regulate air traffic in line with current operational and security considerations. However, officials did not provide further details regarding the underlying reasons for the extension.
Aviation Routes Adjust Amid Ongoing Restrictions
Meanwhile, airlines operating in the region have adjusted their flight paths to comply with the prolonged ban. Consequently, several international routes involving Indian carriers continue to take longer alternative corridors, increasing travel time and operational costs.
Furthermore, aviation analysts note that such restrictions typically impact scheduling efficiency and fuel consumption for affected airlines. Nevertheless, air traffic management authorities maintain that safety and regulatory compliance remain the top priorities.
Overall, the extended closure underscores continuing strain in regional aviation coordination. At the same time, stakeholders expect that any future changes will depend on broader diplomatic and operational developments between the two countries.
