ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday criticised India for failing to present credible evidence regarding its allegations over the Pahalgam attack, marking the first anniversary of the incident.
In a televised statement, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said New Delhi had not substantiated its claims and had also avoided calls for an independent investigation. He added that Pakistan had consistently offered to support a neutral inquiry into the attack, which killed 26 people in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Furthermore, Tarar stated that tensions escalated last year when India launched strikes inside Pakistan following the incident. He reiterated Islamabadโs position that the accusations were unfounded and maintained that Pakistan responded to what it described as aggression.
In addition, the minister questioned procedural aspects of the case, including the rapid registration of a police report shortly after the attack. He argued that such developments raised concerns and warranted further scrutiny. He also claimed that international observers, analysts, and segments of Indian civil society had expressed doubts regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, Tarar criticised sections of Indian media for amplifying what he described as unverified narratives. He further alleged that India has attempted to shift internal challenges outward while framing disputed issues as domestic matters.
Moreover, the minister reiterated Pakistanโs commitment to counterterrorism efforts and national security. He stated that the country would continue to respond firmly to any perceived threats.
Consequently, the anniversary has renewed debate over the unresolved incident and broader regional tensions.
