Islamabad Voices Strong Support for Saudi Arabia
Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned the drone attacks carried out against Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed its continued support for Riyadh during a period of growing regional tensions. The reaction came after Saudi authorities reported that their air defence systems intercepted and destroyed three unmanned aircraft that had entered from Iraq a day earlier.
According to a statement issued by Pakistanโs Foreign Office, the government denounced the attacks in the strongest terms and described them as a serious violation of Saudi Arabiaโs sovereignty and territorial integrity. Moreover, the statement stressed that such actions threaten regional stability and could further escalate an already tense security environment.
The Foreign Office further stated that the government and people of Pakistan stand in complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia and remain committed to supporting the kingdomโs peace, security, and prosperity during this critical period.
Concerns Rise Over Attacks on Regional Infrastructure
Meanwhile, Pakistan also condemned the drone attack targeting the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab Emirates earlier on Sunday. The Foreign Office stated that any deliberate targeting of nuclear facilities represents a grave breach of international law and violates international humanitarian principles, the United Nations Charter, and nuclear safety standards established by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
According to UAE authorities, the drone strike caused a fire at the nuclear facility but did not result in injuries or affect radiation levels. Additionally, the defence ministry reported that security forces successfully intercepted two other drones launched from the western border area.
Officials stated that the drone that bypassed defences struck an electrical generator outside the inner security perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, while authorities continued monitoring the situation.
