Pakistan has warned that any Indian move to divert or alter the natural flow of the River Chenab, including a diversion towards the Beas River, would violate international laws governing shared water resources. The statement came after reports aired by a private channel on Thursday.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said unilateral actions by India cannot change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed that such steps run counter to established international norms and agreements.
Diplomatic engagement and US appreciation
The spokesperson said Pakistan has remained actively engaged in diplomacy over the past two weeks. He noted frequent international contacts focused on regional developments and peace efforts, including issues in the Middle East.
He added that Marco Rubio, the United States Secretary of State, acknowledged Pakistanโs role in mediation. According to Andrabi, US leadership appreciated Islamabadโs contribution to promoting regional stability.
Commitment to peace and condemnation of Israeli actions
Andrabi reaffirmed Pakistanโs commitment to a constructive role in maintaining regional peace. He said Islamabad supports resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
He also condemned ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza and Lebanon, stating that Pakistan strongly opposes what it described as continued aggression against the Palestinian people.
