Senior Commanders Review Regional Security Challenges
Pakistan and Lebanon moved to strengthen defence ties on Tuesday as the heads of their armed forces held detailed discussions on regional security, military cooperation, and future collaboration.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Rodolphe Haykal, Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces, met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
Upon his arrival, General Haykal received a guard of honour from a tri-services contingent, reflecting the significance of the visit and the cordial relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, both military leaders exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and assessed the evolving security landscape in the region. They also reviewed opportunities to expand cooperation between their respective armed forces.
Furthermore, the discussions focused on strengthening military-to-military engagement and enhancing professional exchanges between Pakistan and Lebanon.
Training and Institutional Cooperation Receive Attention
The two sides also explored avenues for greater collaboration in training, defence education, and institutional linkages. Officials emphasized the importance of building stronger professional interactions to support long-term cooperation.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistanโs commitment to maintaining close relations with Lebanon and highlighted the importance Islamabad places on its longstanding friendship with Beirut. He also underscored the Pakistan Armyโs willingness to further expand defence collaboration with the Lebanese Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, General Haykal praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of Pakistanโs armed forces. He acknowledged their contributions to regional peace and stability as well as their participation in international peacekeeping missions.
In addition, the Lebanese military chief expressed appreciation for Pakistanโs experience in defence and security matters, describing military cooperation as an important element of bilateral relations.
The visit comes at a time when countries across the region are closely monitoring shifting security dynamics and seeking stronger partnerships to address emerging challenges.
Officials said the meeting reflected the shared desire of both armed forces to deepen cooperation and maintain regular engagement. Consequently, the discussions are expected to contribute to stronger defence relations and expanded military collaboration between Pakistan and Lebanon in the years ahead.
