Security Forces Continue Joint Action After Mangi Dam Attack
Security forces have killed nine more terrorists during the ongoing Operation Shaban in Balochistan, according to security sources.
The latest action has raised the number of terrorists killed under Operation Shaban to 52. Security sources said 88 militants have been killed in different operations since July 5.
The operation was launched after the deadly attack on the Mangi Dam police station in Ziarat. It is being carried out jointly by the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and Balochistan Police.
Security sources said the latest militants were targeted through coordinated air and ground operations. They added that the operation will continue until the remaining terrorists are eliminated.
Mangi Dam Attack Sparked Major Security Response
The Mangi Dam attack triggered a large-scale security operation across difficult mountainous areas of Balochistan.
According to the militaryโs earlier briefing, terrorists attacked a police checkpoint near the Mangi Dam pumping station. Police personnel fought back and killed several attackers during the initial engagement.
Nine police personnel embraced martyrdom during the first phase of fighting. Later, militants took other police personnel hostage before security forces reached the area.
The attack and subsequent killings created serious concern across Balochistan. Security forces then expanded operations in the area to track down those involved.
Security sources said the ongoing campaign has inflicted heavy losses on militant groups. However, they also confirmed that 42 people, including security personnel and civilians, were martyred in three recent terrorist attacks in the province.
Balochistan Faces Renewed Terror Threat
Pakistan has seen a sharp increase in terrorist activity in recent years, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Officials say the security situation worsened after 2021, when the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly demanded action against groups using Afghan soil for attacks inside Pakistan.
The latest violence in Balochistan has increased pressure on security agencies to restore law and order and protect civilians, police and military personnel.
Security sources said operations will continue across affected areas. They added that air and ground coordination is being used to target militant hideouts in rugged terrain.
The government and security institutions have said there will be no compromise on peace in Balochistan.
Authorities believe Operation Shaban is a key part of the wider effort to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent further attacks in the province.
