Heavy Rain May Trigger Local Flooding
The National Disaster Management Authority has issued flood and landslide alerts for northern parts of Pakistan from June 10 to June 15.
The authority warned that expected rainfall in mountainous regions could cause flash floods, river overflows and travel disruption.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre, the current weather pattern matches earlier forecasts and advance alerts issued by the authority.
The NDMA said rain, strong winds and thunderstorms may create dangerous conditions in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The warning covers rivers, streams and rain-fed waterways in hilly areas. Sudden rainfall in such regions can quickly raise water levels and create flash flood conditions.
Residents living close to rivers, streams and low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert and take precautionary measures.
High-Risk Districts Identified
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the NDMA identified Chitral, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram and Mansehra as areas facing possible flash flood risks.
These districts include mountainous terrain, narrow valleys and communities that can be affected quickly by intense rainfall.
The authority also warned of possible local flooding in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh and Rawalakot in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rising water levels may affect rivers and streams in Ghizer, Yasin, Diamer, Tangir, Darel and Gilgit districts.
The NDMA said flood-like conditions could develop in these areas if rainfall continues or intensifies during the warning period.
The alert is especially important for people living near water channels, slopes and areas already vulnerable to landslides.
Tourists Urged to Avoid Risky Travel
Tourists and travellers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to mountainous areas during heavy rainfall.
Roads in northern regions can become dangerous due to landslides, falling rocks, slippery surfaces and sudden water flow.
The NDMA warned that travel disruption may occur in areas where roads pass close to rivers or through steep mountain routes.
Local authorities are expected to remain on alert and monitor vulnerable areas during the forecast period.
Residents have also been asked to follow official guidance and avoid crossing flooded roads, streams or unstable bridges.
The authority said early caution can help prevent loss of life and reduce damage to property.
The warning comes as northern Pakistan enters a sensitive weather period, with rain, wind and thunderstorms increasing risks in high-altitude regions.
People in affected districts should remain informed through official updates and avoid unnecessary exposure to flood-prone areas.
