ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted a fresh spell of heavy rain across Pakistan from tomorrow (July 7 to 10). According to NDMA, Islamabad, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, and northeastern Punjab will experience rain for four days.
The weather system will enter the northern parts of the country today. Consequently, rain accompanied by thunder and lightning will affect the region throughout the four-day period.
River inflows expected to increase
The authority said rainfall is also likely in areas along the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers. As a result, river flows may rise slightly, while water inflows into the Tarbela and Mangla dams are also expected to increase.
However, the NDMA stated that the forecast does not indicate a risk of large-scale river flooding. Even so, water levels in hill torrents and seasonal streams may increase during the rainy spell.
NDMA warns of waterlogging and landslides
The disaster management authority warned that low-lying urban areas could experience waterlogging if heavy rain occurs. In addition, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir may face an increased risk of landslides.
The people, especially those living in vulnerable areas, must follow weather updates to stay safe while authorities will monitor the situation to respond promptly to any weather-related emergencies.
