Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Expected
The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a nationwide weather advisory, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rainfall in several parts of Pakistan during the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre, the expected weather pattern is in line with the seasonal outlook issued earlier.
The NDMA said advance warnings and risk assessments have already been shared with federal, provincial and district authorities.
Officials have been directed to ensure timely preparedness and quick response in case of emergencies.
The advisory warned that heavy rain may trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas and flash floods in vulnerable regions.
Northern Areas Face GLOF and Landslide Threat
The NDMA also warned of possible landslides and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods in mountainous areas.
Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir have been placed under special alert due to the risk of sudden glacier-related flooding.
The authority said GLOF events can cause sudden floods, landslides and debris flows.
Rainfall is expected in several areas of Punjab and Islamabad, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.
Thunderstorms and rain are also likely in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli and Mirpur.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan.
Authorities Told to Stay on High Alert
Balochistan may receive rain in Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Khuzdar and Zhob.
Parts of Sindh, including Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur and Karachi, may experience strong winds, dust storms and isolated rainfall.
The NDMA said district administrations are monitoring vulnerable locations.
Rescue and emergency teams have been told to remain ready for any developing situation.
Tourists and travellers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
People planning to visit northern areas should check weather updates and road conditions before travelling.
The authority urged citizens to use the official Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application for updates.
Citizens have also been advised to contact local administration or rescue services immediately in case of emergency.
